A designer's dream come true.. The concept of Esculpta came to life in 2006 in Athens, Greece by the label's chief-designer, Nikias. A fourth generation jeweler, silversmith and antique dealer, the interest and ability for Nikias to develop his skills in traditional high-quality jewelry manufacture would come without question by the age of 28 when esculpta came into being. The esculpta range was clearly a part of a greater philosophy - within each individual piece underlied all the qualities of an intimate wearable work of art. And by wearable.. we mean in all sorts of exciting ways and his vision was to use his knowledge and skills for something less ordinary. This was more like a quest to fully address the deep relationship with jewelry that had been passed down to him. On a philosophical level this would be the challenge of understanding the human relationship to beautiful adornments called jewelry and the pre-historic instinctive desire of man for jewelry. | What was it exactly from ancient Greeks and Etruscans to the modern man, from kings, to the poorest of the poor, that attracted all men alike with fascination to the wearing of jewels, or beads or colored stones? An attraction so consistent and so strong throughout the ages would have to be embedded somewhere in human DNA. Nikias' gut feeling was that 'eroticism' was at the heart of this archetypical trait.. So already with a plethora of cultural references, rich with knowledge of ancient Greek manufacturing techniques and skills, Nikias endeavored to design and prototype objects and manufacture new original ideas in his work. From this point there was only one thing to do, in order to honor 'the gods and the Greek muses' that had blessed him with his creativity, making his vision come true.. this was to give birth to a freshly innovative and unique range of erotic jewelry!

From the beginning, this initiative was met great acceptance as it pioneered a dynamic and stylish approach to the taboo subject of cock-rings. According to Nikias' insight on this success in an interview in 2009 "most of the existing cock-rings on the market were cheap, quite tacky and would inevitably be found in adult-stores.. making the whole matter inevitably a bit sleezy". By applying his extensive research on ancient jewelry themes and highly-demanding jewelry-making techniques, the designs resulting from his work became what many consider today to be true works of art. Within very little time, after the launch from Greece in 2006, the tiny and new label of esculpta began to pick up lots of attention and fans from numerous countries and to be featured by trend-seeking publications and lifestyle magazines around the world, while also dynamically expanding its customer base and introducing more inspired designs. In contrast to popular opinion, despite that Cock-Rings are traditionally considered a "gay thing", Nikias' creations for esculpta are purchased by gay and straight men alike.
